Overcoming Endometriosis: Why I Started The Cycle Solution

Hi, I’m Megan - wife and mother of two, natural health advocate, IFM Certified Health Coach, and former sufferer of hormonal issues. I’m not talking about the occasional mood swing during PMS, either.

My hormones were full-blown controlling my life, and it took me countless appointments with several different doctors. I was given surgery and intense prescription meds as my only options. This just really wasn’t for me. I decided I wanted to take matters into my own hands and understand everything there was to know about my condition. I realized two things: my health issues were deeply rooted in a hormone imbalance, and I could control those hormones to start taking back my life.

It’s this path that led me to create The Cycle Solution and allowed me to help other women take control of their hormones, too. Here’s my journey:

I had endometriosis and couldn’t get pregnant.

I was 26 and ready to start a family. I had just gotten off birth control pills after having taken them for 10 years. But I still couldn’t get pregnant. Naturally, I went to a doctor seeking answers.

I was diagnosed with endometriosis - there was a giant cyst on my ovary that I had to have surgically removed.

I finally did manage to become pregnant and am a proud mother to two handsome boys. And after treatment, I was also symptom-free of endometriosis - until I wasn’t.

It came back with a vengeance. And this time, I was also diagnosed with adenomyosis, which is where the tissue that lines the uterus grows into the uterine wall. It was painful, the kind of pain that knocks you off your feet. For two weeks every month, I was miserable. It was a problem that not only impacted me, but also my family. How could I show up for them when I felt like I had no control over my own body?

Once again, I went back to doctor after doctor. I was told a hysterectomy would “fix” the problem. But doing so would send me into early menopause. I was also told I could go back onto the birth control pill until I was in menopause.  Again, that didn’t seem like a viable option for me.

During this entire process, I was given little to no information about my condition or what caused it. To me, a hysterectomy or being on synthetic hormones for 15 more years wasn’t a “fix”. They were drastic treatments that did not deal with the root cause and had terrible side effects.

That’s when I started looking into alternative treatments and natural remedies.

Functional medicine changed my entire perspective of health.

At some point in my exploration, I learned about functional medicine. It was more life-changing than anything I learned in the doctor’s office. Functional medicine isn’t just about slapping a diagnosis on a problem. It’s about diving deeper to look at why you have that problem.

I also learned that health is holistic. You can’t treat just one symptom, function, or problem and expect it to go away. That’s not how the body works. It’s a system that works together, which is why when something is wrong, you have to take a look at the whole body and the interconnectedness of it all.

When you know why something works the way it does, you have a much clearer picture of how to treat it. By targeting the root cause, we have a better understanding of how to deal with the desired outcome.

I not only discovered that I had a hormonal imbalance, but that I was also extremely inflamed due to imbalances in my gut and food sensitivities.  Both of these factors were driving my endometriosis and adenomyosis.  I also discovered that these two factors are drivers of most hormonal complaints. At this point, there was a sense of relief for me. I finally had discovered the cause of my condition and I was ready to fix it naturally once and for all.

Here’s my holistic approach to better health and eliminating endometriosis.

I didn’t have the hysterectomy. I didn’t go on medications. That would only manage my symptoms, almost like putting a bandaid on a wound that would never heal.

Instead, I took a functional approach to hormonal imbalance and inflammation to target the root cause.

I started with changing my diet. I became more aware of what I ate, started looking into the nutrients and benefits of specific foods, and started eliminating ones that were inflammatory and weren’t nourishing my body in the way it needed.

I also started paying more attention to the other things that were in contact with my body, including beauty products that are absorbed by the skin. I researched all kinds of endocrine disruptors and toxins that could influence my hormones. Anything that I used on a daily basis, from laundry detergent to lip balm, I started scrutinizing more closely.

I basically created my own treatment program that took into account all areas of my health instead of just my symptoms. This holistic approach addressed the wide array of factors which constantly interact with and affect our hormones.

Within a handful of months, I had almost no symptoms!

And what’s more, I noticed that other areas of my health had improved, too. No more PMS, no more hormonal acne breakouts, better digestion, more energy, and most importantly, I felt like myself - there was so much to celebrate.

I’m now 42 years old, and I am living an active life free of hormonal issues. Just 16 years ago, I never would have thought this was possible. And I never knew just how my hormones were negatively affecting my body, my energy, and my life - until all those symptoms went away.

I turned my knowledge into The Cycle Solution.

During my journey, I did a lot of research on lifestyle modalities, functional medicine, and women's biology to name a few. I experienced a lot of trial and error, and changes to my daily lifestyle. But nothing I did was anything extraordinary. I did things that anyone can do, I just needed all the right pieces to the puzzle!

Through this empowering process I realized that if these simple things I did to change my lifestyle worked so well for me, I could help other women put what I learned to good use, too.

That’s why I created The Cycle Solution - a course focused on helping women take control of their hormones naturally. This course is the foundation to understanding your hormones, your cycle, and your health as a whole. These discussions aren’t happening behind closed doors with your OB-GYN or family doctor, but 100% should be. My hope is to help you understand the root causes of hormonal imbalance and give you actionable steps to help you fix them.

It’s not just for women with endometriosis like me, either. Anyone suffering from terrible PMS, PCOS, infertility issues, perimenopause, or even coming off birth control all have hormones at the center of their issues.

My goal is to give women the no-nonsense, straightforward, solid solutions that you aren’t hearing from your doctors so you can balance your hormones and take back your livelihood.
